Please tell a few words about your family and what you were doing before "project handmade".
I live with my boyfriend and our two sons (6 and 8) in a small town outside of Copenhagen, in Denmark. In 2012 I discovered minimalism and started getting rid of the excess stuff in our life, it all went to friends, family or to the thrift store, since de-cluttering does not mean throwing out. I started my blog in 2014 to write about being a minimalist, non-shopper, slowfashion-wearing hippie
Before writing my blog I also had a fairly simple shopping regime, where I didnt over-shop, but mostly bought a little too much and kind of the wrong things. After finding minimalism and starting my blog, I found that having a small wardrobe, with only my favorites and mostly secondhand or slow fashion, handmade things, it made me happy and made it much easier to get dressed in the morning. And to feel like "myself" all day long.
In my professional life I work with financial compliance, and I also design knitting patterns as a small job in the side. Knitting has been my big passion since our oldest boy was newborn, I love want you can produce the needles and a little yarn.
What was the most important influence that gave you confidence to start the project?
I read the usual blogs, The Minimalists, Zero Waste Home and Zenhabits, and found the need for a blog in Danish, which focused on buying/having way less, and making what you already have, work. The world does not need anymore fast-fashion blogs
What are your rules/feelings when you select the material and its color?
I mainly buy secondhand and redesign if necessary, I like "pure" materials like silk, wool or cotton, but I look at weather the fabric feels nice on my skin and weather it will wrinkle or tear easily. I never iron my clothes and I have an active life - the clothes need to keep up to it.
What materials and colors do you love the most?
Silk, wool, cotton, and mostly dark colors to fit my days at the office (and to survive my active day without a lot of spots).
What is the most popular model that you sold to your clients?
My model CECILIA is very popular, and LOTUS and HEMSESAL as well.
Do you like capsule wardrobe concept?
Its fun to read about, but I don’t care to count my clothes, I just keep the favorites - no matter the number. I feel that sometimes people feel like the "need" to buy new - to make a new capsule - and that kind of defeat the purpose.
Do you feel hygge spirit in your project, in your work?
"Hygge" for me is being with my family, playing board games, eating pancakes, biking in the woods or reading together. Becoming a minimalist has giving me much more time, time saved by not shopping, organizing a cluttered house or over-working to pay bills. A minimalist house can also by filled with "hygge" because there is more space, more time and way more relaxed parents
What colors and materials would you add to describe hygge?
In my mind, "hygge" is more about the feeling of ease of mind and the company you keep, than the decorations or the clothes you wear.
