Professional organizing is somewhat associated with minimalism. Although it is not the same thing. I present an interview with the leader of the project "Minimalism as a lifestyle" Tatyana. In her project you will find interesting articles, opinions and motivations if the concept of minimalism is close to you.
Please tell us about yourself, how old you are, about your family, what you did before the project “Minimalism as a lifestyle”.
My name is Tatyana. At the moment I am 25 years old. As before, I still do photography. I can say that I "minimized" my work to the wedding photography.
How did you start your journey as a minimalist?
It is hard to say. In childhood we copy the behavior of adults, so back then I could hardly be called a minimalist. I remember when I was a teenager, I often raked my things, apparently subconsciously I was always attracted to free space. As internal transformations and development progressed, I came to the optimal amount of things for myself, and constant moving also does its job. Carrying a pile of things behind you is a difficult task, even from a physical point of view :-) But I’m definitely not an exemplary minimalist and don’t want to become one.
When we get rid of unnecessary things, often these are things from the past. We minimize our past, right?
Things are a reflection of a person’s life, and they are thrown away because they have lost their relevance for a person in the present. But the memory has not yet been learned to clean, so the past is always with us.
Attachment to the past is dangerous, harmful? Are we then approaching a kind of oblivion?
All that is fanatical is dangerous. We should be grateful to the past, to analyze what life situations teach us and to be flexible to future events.
What books do you recommend to read to the beginning minimalists?
It is impossible to predict what kind of book will hook and help a person. There is a list of books on the site, anyone can select and read.
How do you feel about conscious consumption?
I hope that in the future the average person will enter the life and become the norm.
Is reducing clothes one of the most important criteria for minimalism?
There is an opinion that clothes do not define us as individuals. But still the world is so arranged that we have to wear clothes. Why not wear something that is a visual continuation of you. It is interesting to me, but someone else will not even bother about it. Anyway, no one neglects the principle of harmony in clothes.
What should minimalists do with fast fashion?
Minimalists do not choose fast fashion. By the way, it's funny when you publish something related to eco-brands, people shout that the eco-brands' creators are cashing in on the trend of minimalism and environmental friendliness. But I am very happy that such enthusiast shops come up. But for now, everything is done by pure enthusiasm.
I think minimalism is the trend of the young people. What is the average age of Russian minimalists?
Everyone who visits our blog “Minimalism as a lifestyle” are people from 21 to 35 years old. The age group is related with the era in which people lived past generations. And young people are more flexible in general.
Was there minimalism in the Soviet Union?
Forced minimalism in the Soviet Union, yes. The minimalism we are talking about now is different. When you look at people, at things and at the world as a whole, you do not experience “hunger”, on the contrary, you move away all unnecessary and take only what fits into your internal and external space.
What inspires you as a minimalist?
I am always guided by internal needs and aesthetics.
Do you have ideals, people who, from your point of view, have become a reference point for minimalists?
I like to look at people who do something (not only in the realm of minimalism), analyze (“and whether it will suit me”) and try. If in my life there is less stress and more joy, then I'm on the right track.
What in art inspires minimalists - what kind of music, what writers, artists, tv shows?
In general, any art is minimalist, because feelings or ideas are expressed in perfect material form. And to achieve the perfect form, you need to be able to discard the secondary and find the most important thing.
